ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – University of New Mexico senior defender Kyle Venter has been selected to the 2013 Senior CLASS Award Second Team. The national award is given to only ten collegiate soccer players a year who represent the complete student-athlete experience. Venter is the first Lobo in the seven-year history of the award to earn a spot on the Senior CLASS Award teams.

The Senior CLASS Award is based off an acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School. The honor focuses on individuals who truly embrace and represent the student-athlete experience. The award also recognizes those who use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Venter became UNM’s first ever three-time All-American this season while becoming the program’s all-time leader in career minutes played with 7,859 minutes. He was a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist this season after earning Conference USA Most Valuable Player and Defensive Player of the Year awards.

His on-the-field accolades are rivaled by his academic awards. He’s taken home Academic All-America, All-District and All-Conference honors in his Lobo career.

Venter and the rest of the Lobos ended the 2013 season in the NCAA College Cup in the UNM’s second-ever Final Four appearance.

The senior defender has been selected to attend the 2014 MLS Combine in Orlando a week before January’s MLS SuperDraft.
