ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The No. 5 University of New Mexico men's soccer team kicked off its fall season with a pair of training sessions Monday. Picked to win the Conference USA regular season title for a second straight year, head coach Jeremy Fishbein is excited to finally get back on the pitch and start working towards a repeat trip to the College Cup."

"This is a big week," he said. "We've got a week to focus on what we need to do. Then we get to test it on some opposition, fine tune some things, and before you know it the season is going to be here."

The Lobos return 80 percent of their goal scoring from last season's roster and added another big-time scoring threat in transfer Kevin Correa, who was sixth in the NCAA in points per game (1.68) and ninth in total goals (13) for St. Francis (N.Y.) in 2013.

"We're going to be good on the ball, and we're going to be relentless defensively," Fishbein said. "We're going to get the ball back as quickly as we can. We're going to play attractive, technical soccer. We feel that's an obligation to the community. We feel we're going to be entertainers, and we're going to be good."

The Lobos will need to be good in order to traverse a daunting schedule. UNM will face seven teams currently in the top 30 for voting. That includes the regular-season opener against 13th-ranked Akron on Aug. 29 at 7 p.m., and a matchup with No. 4 UCLA at the UNM Soccer Complex the following weekend.

"We want to play the best teams in the country every week," said Fishbein, "and we're getting that opportunity, which is great for us and great for the fans."
