ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - University of New Mexico men's soccer head coach, Jeremy Fishbein, announced the Lobos' 2010 eight-member recruiting class today. Fishbein and assistant coaches Paul Souders and Chris Cartlidge have again assembled a tremendous recruiting class for the upcoming season - the talented newcomers will add exceptional depth to a strong core of returning Lobo veterans.

"I think this is one of the most well-rounded recruiting classes we've had in my tenure," said head coach Jeremy Fishbein. "What we expect from Lobo soccer players is a commitment to excellence: academically, socially, and athletically. These are young men who are going to put team goals first and will bring ability, enthusiasm, and character to our talented returning class."

Four of the Lobos' eight recruits are local products, bringing the number of New Mexico players on the roster to 10. The local newcomers are Carson Baldinger (La Cueva HS), Javier Gomez (Rio Rancho HS), Riley McGovern (Farmington HS), and Devon Sandoval (Eldorado HS). Fishbein said all four have spent a great amount of time around the program and are aware of what it takes to succeed as a Lobo.

Baldinger is a 6-1 forward and was the 2009 5A New Mexico Player of the Year and a High School All-American. Gomez is a 5-11 midfielder who was a two-time all-state selection. McGovern is a 6-2 defender and was the 4A New Mexico Player of the Year in 2009.

Sandoval is currently enrolled at UNM and is training with the team this winter. He transferred from San Diego State University after a strong freshman season in the fall of 2009 and will have three years of eligibility remaining at UNM. Sandoval was a three-time all-state selection at Eldorado High School before attending SDSU.

"If there are players from New Mexico who we feel can make our program better, we want them here," said Fishbein. "We definitely feel that we've done that with the four local players joining us in 2010."

The four remaining recruits joining the Lobo program in the fall are Taylor Hafling, Michael Kafari, Patrick Poblete, and Giovanni Rollie. Hafling is a 6-3 goalkeeper from Male HS in Louisville Ky. who was a two-time Adidas ESP Camp participant. Kafari is a 6-1 forward who led his Centennial HS team in Boise, Idaho to a 5A State Soccer Championship in 2009. Poblete is a 6-4 goalkeeper who was a two-time Desert Valley Region Selection at Brophy College Prep in Scottsdale, Ariz. Rollie is a 5-7 midfielder/defender who is a member of the U.S. U-18 Men's National Soccer Team Player Pool.

"All of these players have the ability to come in and contribute," said Fishbein. "Our recruiting class consists of young men who are committed to our program's core values, and each will find ways to make us better. I'm very excited to work with and mentor them on a daily basis."

New Mexico posted a 12-7-1 record in 2009, the sixth consecutive season in which the team posted 11 or more wins. 2009 marked the seventh time New Mexico has advanced to the NCAA Tournament in the last nine years.
