KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Senior Devon Sandoval and junior Kyle Venter are among the 42 male Division I soccer players named to the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) 2012 Hermann Watch List. The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) recognizes the award as "the highest individual award in intercollegiate soccer presented annually..."
The pair of Lobos makes New Mexico one of only eight programs in the nation to have to multiple student-athletes on the list. NSCAA member coaches will vote to determine the top 15 candidates in November and then name finalists in early December.
Devon Sandoval was one of the Lobos' offensive leaders in their first-ever undefeated season in 2011. His eight goals and eight assists were good for second and first on the team respectively. He also finished in the top 25 in the nation in both categories. He was a First Team All-MPSF and All-Region member. Sandoval was also a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week, and he was a member of College Soccer News' National Team of the Week in September.
Kyle Venter has helped anchor the New Mexico backline in his two active seasons with the program. He started in 19 matches as a freshman and all 22 matches last year as a sophomore. His 2011 campaign saw the Aurora, Colorado native receive Second Team All-American honors from the NSCAA as he tallied five goals and one assist. Venter, like Sandoval, also received First Team All-MPSF and All-Region honors.
The 15 semifinalists will be announced on November 29th.
