Denver, Colo. --- They say revenge is a dish best served cold. On Friday night, it was served cool and late. New Mexico's Josh Caffey knocked in a corner kick from Matt Armstrong with just 2:32 remaining in the contest, and the Lobos exacted revenge on Denver, scoring a 1-0 victory on the Pioneers' home turf. The win matched Denver's 1-0 win over New Mexico last Friday night at the UNM Soccer Complex.

The win pushed the Lobos into a tie for second place with Air Force, who also won tonight. The Falcons knocked down UNLV 2-0. UNM and Air Force are both 2-2 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, good for six points, while Denver is 2-1-1 for seven points. New Mexico is 5-4-2 overall and Denver is 5-4-3.

The only goal of the match came on the final shot by either team. The Lobos workedout a corner kick, and Armstrong sent it into the box right Josh Caffey, who hammered one home for the 1-0 win. Caffey's goal was his second of the season, and Armstrong's assist was his first as a Lobo. The senior transferred to UNM from Notre Dame.

The winner came after New Mexico ratcheted up the pressure in the second half, blasting away with 15 second half shots after taking just four in the open 45 minutes. UNM outshot the Pioneers 19-10 overall, and had nine corners to six for Denver.

The goal made a winner of Justin Holmes, who recorded his second shutout and improved to 3-3-2 on the season.

New Mexico now travels to Air Force to attempt a second helping of revenge. Air Force defeated the Lobos 3-2 last Sunday at UNM.

NOTES: Caffey joined Lance Rozeboom, Levi Rossi, and Michael Kafari for the team lead in goals with two ... UNM's team goals against average dropped to 1.04 ... both teams used just 14 players.
