The dog days of summer have arrived and summer camps are rocking. 250+ kids a week for two weeks: energy to burn, sunscreen in their eyes, blisters, sunburn, bee stings, too much gatorade, stinky socks......the works. Hard at it and realizing the impact our team has on the young soccer players of New Mexico. Couldn't be prouder of our guys and the role models they have become. Lobo Men's Soccer had another great semester in the classroom with a team gpa of 3.4 for the spring. Levi Rossi was named Lobo Club male student/athlete of the year and everyone was very involved and committed to the community. Incredible group of young men. Our players are all back working camps and/or going to summer school and the vibe is tremendous.
Pretty wonderful summer for the boys. Riley McGovern spent a month in New Zealand training at the Ole Academy and playing matches in Wellington. James Rogers spent three weeks in Sweden training with professional clubs. Adrian Mora Delgado is finishing up an internship with a local engineering firm and our four seniors trained with MLS clubs around the country. Kafari, Lisch and Venter trained with Sporting Kansas City, Calderon with Real Salt Lake, Kafari with the Seattle Sounders and Kafari and Venter closed out their June with the Colorado Rapids. All four got a great taste of professional soccer and what it will take to play at the next level upon graduation.
Last years seniors are all doing well. Levi Rossi is living in New Zealand coaching and playing, Vic Rodriguez coming off a season in Guatemala is looking for a new professional club, Travis Campbell is playing semi-professional soccer in Tucson and moving back to Albuquerque at the end of the month, Nic Robson is pursuing professional playing opportunities in England, Devon Sandoval is playing very well for MLS's Real Salt Lake and Blake Smith is finding his form with MLS's Montreal Impact.
With the season right around the corner, media releases promoting the upcoming season are starting to surface and our players are receiving quite a bit of attention. Exciting times ahead for Lobo Soccer. Pre-season camp kicks off August 12th and our first match is an exhibition at the Lobo Soccer Complex versus Grand Canyon University on Saturday night, August 17th at 7:00 pm. We have a special promotion going on right now!
