The Lobos used a quick offensive attack to handle the Highlanders.
Chantale Riddle led all hitters with 16 kills and was error free at the net. Freshman Julia Warren had a match-high 17 digs and added six kills.
Freshman Devanne Sours made her first career start and tallied five kills and one block assist.
Lobo setter Hannah Johnson had her fourth double-double in as many matches with 30 assists and 11 digs.
"Our first contact has to be a little better," head coach Jeff Nelson said of the home opener.
"They came out and served really tough and we struggled early on before we got in a groove. Other than that, I thought it was a pretty good match for us. I feel like I can pretty much put anyone on our team in and the level of play doesn't drop off."
