Leila Petewon enters her first season at The University of New Mexico after joining the athletic department in June 2023 and will work primarily with the women’s basketball program.

Petewon comes to UNM after spending the past season at the University of Oregon as a strength and conditioning coach intern with the men’s and women’s basketball programs as well as with the softball program. In her role, she assisted the head strength and conditioning coach with team lifts, individual lifts, warm-up, conditioning and post-practice tendon loading during the preseason, during season and offseason.

Prior to her time at Oregon, she served as a strength and conditioning coach and as a health and wellness coach for two years at Lane Community College, also working with women’s basketball, and as an assistant girl’s varsity basketball coach. In addition, she has a CSCS, USA Weightlifting level 1 certification, and NBHWC Health and Wellness Coach certifications.

She received her associates of science transfer degree at Lane Community College in 2017 before obtaining a bachelor of science degree in human physiology at Oregon in 2018. Petewon is currently working towards her exercise science master’s degree with a concentration in strength and conditioning at Concordia University- Chicago.
