A Lobo for Life Becomes A Forever Lobo!
May 21, 2012
Former UNM wrestler, Dale Scott, and many others have often made the claim that they are "Lobos for Life," but recently Scott became a charter member of the Forever Lobo Society through a generous estate gift to UNM Athletics.
The Lobo Club has recently launched the Forever Lobo Society, an exclusive recognition society that honors individuals who have left the ultimate legacy for UNM student-athletes, coaches, and athletic programs through charitable estate gift plans. An estate (or planned) gift is a gift of personal, financial, and/or estate assets that are given to Lobo Athletics. In other words, UNM Athletics is named as the beneficiary of a bequest, life insurance policy, retirement account, remainder interest in real estate, annuity, and/or trust.
Such gifts not only help secure future success for Lobo Athletics, but may also provide substantial tax-advantages to supporters and their families. These reasons and more led Dale Scott and others to become Forever Lobos.
Dale Scott came to UNM on a wrestling scholarship and graduated in 1970. Following his successes on the mat as a three-year letter winner, Scott earned his master's degree from UNM in 1977. His passion for wrestling continued as a coach at Manzano High School in Albuquerque. However, the sport that Scott poured his heart and soul into was discontinued at UNM in 1999.
Despite having reasons to not give back to Lobo Athletics, Scott has continued to be a "Lobo for Life" by giving of his time and means to UNM Athletics through the Alumni Lettermen's Association and the Lobo Club. "I decided early on that I could be angry with the school that gave me so much, or I could leave a legacy at UNM to honor my teammates, coaches, and influential people in my life that came from my experiences as a student-athlete at UNM."
"Lobo Athletics has been a major part of my life and this is a way that I can give back, not only to this great university, but also honor the rich tradition of the UNM Alumni Lettermen's Association." It is through this positive attitude and generosity that Dale Scott has left a lasting legacy that will bless the lives of many student-athletes for years to come.
Dale Scott became a Forever Lobo by naming UNM Athletics a beneficiary in his life insurance policy and creating an endowment for student-athlete scholarships that will last well beyond his lifetime. The Lobo Club thanks our loyal supporters and especially those who leave a lasting legacy by including UNM Athletics in their will or estate plans.
Charter membership is open until June 30, 2013 and membership will continue thereafter. For more information on how to become a charter member of the Forever Lobo Society, please contact the Lobo Club at 505-925-5607 or CLICK HERE.
