David Smith Position: Assistant Athletics Trainer Experience: 8th Year alma mater: UTEP '97 - B.S. New Mexico '99 - M.A.

David Smith is in his eighth year as an assistant athletic trainer. Smith is the head trainer for men's basketball and also assist with football. Smith came to UNM after three years as the head trainer at the University of Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas. He was a graduate assistant at UNM from 1997-99 while earning his master's degree in Sports Administration.

Smith was a student trainer at UTEP from 1993-97. He received his bachelor's degree from UTEP in 1997, graduating with honors in Kinesiology and Sports Medicine. Smith received an academic scholarship during all four years of his undergraduate education at UTEP. He is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist with the NSCA since 2002.
