M. Soccer. New Mexico Dominates UNLV With 2-0 Win

The University of New Mexico men's soccer team closed out the regular season with a resounding 2-0 victory over the visiting UNLV Rebels tonight, in a game that doubled as Senior Night. Sophomore Michael Green scored both goals in the win, striking less than four minutes into the game to put the Lobos ahead early on. Green padded the New Mexico lead with a second goal in the 66th minute to set the final score.

W. Swimming. Lobos Gain Third Victory of the Season Against Seattle University

Ashlee Erickson led the way for the women's swimming and diving team capturing back-to-back victories on the 1-meter dive in two meet in the past two days. The Lobos defeated Seattle University 200-95 on Friday, but fell to BYU (234-65) and Boise State (201-97) in Provo, Utah. On Saturday, New Mexico competed against Utah in a quad meet where they were defeated 216-83.

It was an exciting night from start to finish for the University of New Mexico volleyball seniors as the Lobos beat BYU, 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-23) in the final home match of their collegiate careers. Anna Lehne, Rose Morris and Allie Suiter were introduced with their parents, along with the four BYU seniors - Morgan Lloyd Sorenson, Marisa Boaz, Kayla Walker, and Stephanie Lau - prior to the start of the match.

Lobo coach Mike Locksley probably summed it up in words about as tightly as you could want: "The momentum swing hit us." Yeah, Mr. Mo hit the University of New Mexico hard as the Utah Utes exploded for 21 third-quarter points and broke out of a 17-7 halftime lead en route to a 45-14 Mountain West Conference win over the Lobos Saturday night in Salt Lake City. The Lobos will try to get a notch on the win side of their ledger this coming Saturday against BYU in Albuquerque.

The opportunity for the Lobo seniors Saturday night in Johnson Center has the makings of a special way to walk off their home floor -- with a win over Brigham Young. Of course, it is a payback kind of win. The Lobos went up to Provo, Utah and were slapped down somewhat unexpectedly by the Cougars. It's also a much-needed win as the Lobos try to charge into the NCAA Tournament with an at-large invitation. A win over BYU could just do the trick. The three Lobo seniors to be honored Saturday are Rose Morris, Anna Lehne and Allie Suiter.

One Utah team down. One more to go. It probably won't get much harder Saturday when the Brigham Young Cougars follow the Utah Utes' footsteps into Johnson Center. "It was intense. It was fun. It was everything it could be," said Lobo senior Anna Lehne of New Mexico's hard-fought 3-1 win over Utah Thursday night in Johnson Center. "Tell our fans how much we need them on Saturday," said Lobo coach Jeff Nelson. "I think (tonight) was a great battle. It was so loud in here. (Our crowd) makes such a big difference for us."

There is a huge challenge that falls on all Lobos, but also rests heavy on the shoulders of Jeremy Fishbein's five seniors. Saturday's Senior Night MPSF tussle with UNLV might be the last home game as a Lobo for Stephen Brown, Justin Davis, Simon Ejdemyr, Euan Holden and P.J. Wilson. Or this fearsome fivesome of Lobos could help power the Lobos back into the NCAA playoffs and maybe back to the UNM Soccer Complex for another run. "That's definitely what we want," said Ejdemyr. "My goal is to win every game the rest of the way."

The University of New Mexico women's swimming and diving team (2-2) will hit the road this weekend as they travel to Utah for two meets in two days. Friday Nov. 6 the Lobos will take on conference opponent BYU as well as Seattle University in the Stephen L. Richards Building in Provo, Utah with competition beginning at 6 p.m. On Saturday , Nov. 7, the squad is slated to compete against Utah and Boise State in Ute Natatorium in Salt Lake City at 1 p.m.
