Lobos Earn 14th Team Academic Award

KANSAS CITY, MO. — For the 14th season out of the last 15, The University of New Mexico men’s soccer team has earned the prestigious United Soccer Coaches (formerly the NSCAA) College Team Academic Award for maintaining a team grade point average of 3.36 during the 2016-17 season. The honor demonstrates once again the Lobos’ outstanding commitment to performance in the classroom and on the pitch.

United Soccer Coaches 2017 Team Academic Award List

A total of 813 collegiate teams (282 men, 531 women) earned the Team Academic Award, including 195 schools who had both their men’s and women’s programs among the recipients. New Mexico is one of the 195 schools to have both the men’s and women’s programs make the list. The UNM women’s soccer program also earns its 14th recognition.

College Team Academic Award recipients must have a composite grade point average of 3.25 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster and be an active member of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program.

UNM continues to make its academic success a priority. In head coach Jeremy Fishbein’s tenure (2002-present), New Mexico has had 20 Academic All-Americans – more than any other men’s soccer program in the country in all divisions. In addition, the Lobos have garnered 94 Academic All-Conference honorees and 13 NSCAA Scholar All-Americans under Fishbein’s tutelage. Fishbein just reached his 300th career victory, 205 of which have been at the helm of the Lobos.

The Lobos will host Conference USA foe Florida Atlantic on Saturday at the UNM Soccer Complex at 7 p.m. UNM is returning to Albuquerque from a three-game road streak.
