Lobos to Close Season with Four Matches at Arizona

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— Currently on a two-match win streak, The University of New Mexico beach volleyball team will close out its season in Tucson, Ariz., with four matches scheduled between Friday and Saturday.

At 12 p.m. MT, UNM will take on Santa Clara at Bear Down Beach to begin the weekend matches, followed by a 3:30 p.m. tilt with Ottawa University Arizona to conclude Friday’s schedule.

On Saturday morning, the Lobos will play host Arizona, with the Wildcats currently ranked 13 in the latest AVCA Coaches rankings and a 17-4 record, at 10:15 a.m. and will have a final match against Ottawa University Arizona at 11:30 a.m.

UNM faced Arizona in Tucson earlier this season with the Wildcats winning 4-`1. Arizona won the team point on the first two courts before UNM’s Lauren Twitty and Dali Rosado put the Lobos on the board with a three-set win on court one. The Lobos dropped their matchups on the last two courts.

The Lobos are historically 0-9 against the Wildcats.

Against Santa Clara, UNM is 1-0 all-time, with the last meeting occurring on April 1, 2017, a 4-1 win for UNM.  This weekend will mark the first time that UNM will compete against Ottawa University Arizona.

Twitty and Rosado enter the weekend with a 16-4 record, playing predominately at the No. 1 court, to hold the best records on the team this year, and have won their last seven matches. The seven-match streak is the second time this season that the duo has won seven matches in-a-row. The match streak ties the fourth-longest streak for a Lobo pair all-time with the potential of the duo able to capture the second-longest streak of 11 with four wins this weekend.
