High School: Lettered in football at Cibola High School in Albuquerque … played for head coach Rod Williams … earned all-state, all-district and all-metro honors … was a dual threat at Cibola as both a defensive back and a receiver … on defense as a senior, he helped Cibola to a 6-5 record, recording 35 tackles, picking off two passes (and returning them 67 total yards) and breaking up another nine … that came on the heels of a junior season that saw him record 45 tackles and four takeaways (three interceptions and a fumble recovery) along with two pass break-ups … as a senior he also caught 19 passes for 425 yards and seven touchdowns and rushed for 133 yards and a score … all told as a senior he scored 56 points on seven touchdown catches, a touchdown run, an interception return for a touchdown, and a two-point conversion … also returned kickoffs and punts as a junior and a senior … was sometimes used on gadget plays to throw, going 3-for-4 in the last two seasons for 133 yards and a touchdown throwing … also was outstanding in track, running in several relays along with the 400-meter.
