Lobos Hold on to Fourth Place at Utah Invite

SOLDIER HOLLOW, Utah -- The University of New Mexico maintained its fourth-place standing after Friday's 5/10K classical race as part of the Utah Invitational in Soldier Hollow, Utah. The Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association meet concludes tomorrow with a 15/20K freestyle race set to begin at 9 a.m.
The Alpine events for the UNM Invitational begin Saturday morning at the Red River Ski area in Red River, N.M.
Colorado took over first place as their men's and women's teams combined for 222 points on Friday to move their total to 662. Denver dropped one spot to second place with 633 points and Utah sits in third with 624.
The Lobo men were paced by Mats Rudin Resaland as he recorded his seventh top-10 finish with a sixth-place finish. Resaland finished the course in 26:04.2. Junior Christian Otto followed, finishing 17th (27:05.3) and Sjur Prestsaeter was the third point scorer for the Lobos as he took 26th (28:56.6). Eivind Odden Solberg also finished the race, taking 28th. UNM men scored 84 points.
Senior Linn Havelsrud Klaesson finished the women's 5K in 15:31.7 and led the UNM women with a 14th-place finish. Sophomores Anni Nord and Clara Chauvet placed 16th and 21st, respectively. Anita Kirvesniemi and Ingrid Leask also competed. Kirvesniemi placed 23rd and Leask finished 32nd. The women tallied 74 points.
