UNM Finishes Fourth at Utah Invitational

SOLDIER HOLLOW, Utah -- Mats Rudin Resaland again finished fifth in the men's 20K mass-start freestyle and Clara Chauvet placed seventh in the women's 15K masss-start freestyle on Saturday to lead the University of New Mexico Nordic team at the Utah Invitational in Soldier Hollow, Utah.
The Lobos finish the Invite in fourth place with 695 points. Colorado won its third-consecutive Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association meet with 904 points. The Buffaloes' women's team won Saturday's race with a commanding 136 points while the men finished second with 106 points.
Host Utah finished second with 845 points while Denver was third with 777 points. Montana State finished five points behind UNM for fifth with 690, while Alaska Anchorage (616 points), Westminster College (190) and Colorado Mountain College (40) rounded out the field.
Resaland claimed his eighth top-10 finish of the season as he finished fifth with a time of 50:58.1. Christian Otto was second for the Lobo men, finishing 18th (52:26.4) and Eivind Odden Solberg was the third point scorer coming in 29th (58:15.0).
Clara Chauvet led the Lobo women for the first time this season in RMISA action, finishing seventh (44:56.0). It's the third top-10 finish for the sophomore.
Anni Nord finished 15th and Linn Havelsrud Klaesson was 19th to round out the top three for the Lobo women. Nord finished the 15K course in 46:12.1 while Klaesson clocked a 46:47.8.
Anita Kirvesniemi also competed and was 27th.
The next Invitational for the Nordic team is the RMISA Championships/NCAA West Regionals in Bozeman, Mont., Feb. 22-24.
