June 7, 2012
Armin Triendl of men's skiing was named Third Team Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America, giving New Mexico a school-record tying four CoSIDA Academic All-Americans. The four tie the record set last year, and UNM now has 11 Academic All-Americans in the last three years. Overall, UNM had seven All-District honorees as well, and 28 over the past three years.
Triendl joins Levi Rossi of men's soccer, who was also named Third Team. Women's basketball's Caroline Durbin and volleyball's Kelly Williamson were both named First Team.
Triendl has seven top five finishes on the season, including a first place at the RMISA Qualifier in the slalom. He was named both RMISA Alpine MVP, and the RMISA Skier of the Year. Triendl earned First Team All-America honors in the Giant Slalom in 2012, finishing fifth at the NCAA Championships.
Overall he had seven top five finishes, and his finishes in the giant slalom were 2nd, 3rd, 4th (Regionals), 5th, 5th (NCAAs) and 8th. He helped UNM finish 8th at the NCAAs, the 29th consecutive top 10 finish for the ski team.
He is also a three-time Lobo Scholar-Athlete, and was named to the 2012 Fidelity Investments UNM All-Academic Team.
