After spending two years as assistant coach at Northwestern University Haynes is in her second ear with the Lobos, assisting Coach Franklin with the distance runners. When she was hired for her second year at Northwestern Head Coach April Likhite said, "I am very excited and honored to to have A'Havahla coaching with us. She did a phenomenal job last year connecting with our athletes. Her passion for the sport and her experience as a Big Ten student-athlete bring a very instrumental coaching dimension to our program. During the last two years Haynes has been responsible for overseeing the highly successful women's distance program, and during 2012 will take on the duties of coaching the men and women 800 runners. She is in charge of the Lobo Nike program administering all aspects of that program. Haynes who is a 2007 graduate of the University of Wisconsin earned All Big Ten and All Midwest regional honors for both cross country & track. She was a member of the 2006 cross country team that placed fourth at the NCAA meet and she competed in three NCAA Cross Country Championships during her time as a Badger. On the track she set the Wisconsin school record in the 3000 meter steeplechase (10:07) and earned All American honors. Coach Franklin on Haynes, "Coach Haynes brings a high degree of enthusiasm and energy to our program. She did a great job this past fall working primarily with our women's cross country team and it was no accident that the women placed fifth at the NCAA meet with her leadership. Her personality and philosophy meshes very well with our coaching staff and I am sure she will help us reach our goal of winning a national championship in cross country." |
