18 New Mexico track & field athletes looks to advance to the NCAA Championships this weekend
Joe Franklin's Lobos are sending their best athletes to fight for a chance to compete at the NCAA Outdoor Championships
For the men, seven individuals claimed 10 total honors, while nine women and a relay team scored 12 total selections.
The Lobo women racked up 145.5 team points over the four-day meet, while the men combined for 149
The Lobo women are in second place while the men sit in third after the third day of action at the MW Track Championships.
UNM hosts the New Mexico Invitational, their second of four home meets, Jan. 25-26 at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
The Lobos open their 2013 track & field campaign hosting the Cherry & Silver Invite in the Albuquerque Convention Center.
The UNM track and field team takes on the MW at the conference championships in Colorado Springs, Colo., May 9-12.
The Lobos played host to some of the premier institutions across the nation at the Don Kirby Invite, Feb. 10, 2012.
2012 Indoor: Competed at six meets, primarily in the horizontal jumps...Claimed 27th in the long jump at the Cherry & Silver Invitational, leaping 17-3 3/4...Tied for fifth in the long jump (18-7 1/4) and sixth in the triple jump (indoor best of 39-3 3/4) at the New Mexico Invitational...At the New Mexico Classic, took eighth in the long jump with an 18 1/2 mark...Placed 11th in the long jump (personal-best 18-11 3/4) and 10th in the triple jump (39 1/2) at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational...At the Mountain West Indoor Championships, tied for 20th in the long jump with a 17-1 1/2 leap and claimed fifth in the triple jump with a 39-2 1/4 leap.
2012 Outdoor: Participated at seven meets, mostly in the jumps...Opened with a sixth-place long jump of 17-10 1/2 at the UTEP Springtime Invitational...Took sixth in the long jump (18-11 3/4) and fifth in the triple jump (39 1/2) at the Don Kirby Tailwind Invite...Leapt a 20th-place mark of 18-4 1/2 in the long jump at the UTEP Invitational...Registered a 10th-place mark (18-6) at the Beach Invitational and a fifth-place mark (17-3 1/4) at the Brutus Hamilton Open...Claimed fourth in the triple jump at the Texas Tech Red Raider Open, leaping 39-5 1/4...At the MW Outdoor meet, took 16th in the long jump (17-2 3/4) and eighth in the triple jump (38-9).
