Coronado Finishes Third in International Competition

Junior Katie Coronado finished third with a throw of 162' 1" (49.41m) at the North America, Central America and Caribbean Athletic Association Under-23 Track and Field Championships on June 20 in Toluca, Mexico. In an event that is held every once every two years Coronado helped team USA repeat as medal count winners. Team USA brought home 62 medals including 28 gold. Mexico finished a distant second with 19 medals.

New Mexico's Katie Coronado to Represent the USA in Summer Competition

UNM junior Katie Coronado will compete for team USA at the North America, Central America and Caribbean Athletic Association Under 23 Track & Field Championships on July 18-20 in Toluca, Mexico. NACAC championships are held once every two years in one of it's 32 member states. The 78-athlete roster was announced July 16.

Coronado Places Sixth At U.S. Olympic Trials

Katie Coronado's magical 2008 track and field season finally came to an end on Monday night at Hayward Field. The University of New Mexico junior and Ruidoso, N.M. product finished sixth - third among collegians - in the women's javelin finals at the U.S. Olympic Trials with a mark of 174' 1" (53.06m).

Coronado Advances To Javelin Finals At U.S. Olympic Trials

University of New Mexico junior Katie Coronado recorded a throw of 168' 5" (51.34m - 10th) on Saturday afternoon to advance to tonight's women's javelin finals at the U.S. Olympic Trials at Hayward Field. Sophomore teammate Alesha Walker, meanwhile, will make her debut on the national stage this evening in the women's long jump qualifying round. The long jump begins at 8:05 p.m. Mountain, followed by the javelin at 9:20 p.m. A top-3 finish in each event will earn a spot on the 2008 U.S. Olympic team.

Johnson Awarded NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

Former University of New Mexico distance runner Jeremy Johnson has been awarded the prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship the NCAA announced yesterday. Johnson was the lone Mountain West Conference athlete and one of 12 track athletes in the nation (all divisions of competition) to receive the men's scholarship this spring.
