Lobos Soar At Home Meet
May 1, 2010
Albuquerque, N.M.- Ft. Sumner star Sandy Fortner soared at the 20th Don Kirby Memorial Invite at the Great Friends of New Mexico Track and Field Stadium Saturday. Fortner ran a new personal-best of 14.13 in the finals of the 100m hurdles for a 3rd place finish. The senior now holds the 4th best time in the event in New Mexico history. Sophomore transfer Lamaar Thomas shined at his first home outdoor meet of the season. Thomas ran a wind-aided time of 10.34 in the 100m dash, good for a 3rd place finish. Thomas, who didn't seem all that happy with his performance after the event, was pleasantly surprised when he saw his time flash on the digital board. The time sets a new personal best for Thomas beating his old time of 10.65. Although the time was a PR for Thomas due to the 3.4 wind speed the time will not count towards any records. Deanna Young earned 1st in the triple jump for the second week in a row. The junior jumped a mark of 42-03.50 (12.89m). The second place finisher came in three feet behind Young with a mark of 39-07.25 (12.07m). Freshman Kyle Walker took first in the pole vault with a mark of 16-07.25 (5.06m). The mark sets a season best for the freshman, beating his old season-best of 16-00.75. Fellow freshman De'Vron Walker continued to impress finishing 2nd in the 110m hurdles with a new season-best of 14.57. Junior Patrick Ortiz took first in the 5,000m with a time of 15:11.71.
