Moultrie Selected as MW Athlete of the Week after Record Run
Jan. 29, 2013
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — University of New Mexico senior Josephine Moultrie has been named Mountain West Women's Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week for meets contested from Jan. 24-27. This is the first such recognition of her career.
Moultrie, a senior from Glasgow, Scotland, placed fifth overall and third collegiately in the women's 3,000-meter run at the UW Invitational in Seattle on Saturday. She clocked a career-best time of 9:06.35 versus nine All-Americans in the invitational section of the 3K at Demspey Indoor.
Her time leads the MW in the 3K and ranks fourth in the NCAA in 2013.
She also set a new school record, breaking Ruth Senior's altitude-adjusted mark of 9:17.09 set in the 2011 season. Moultrie currently holds the New Mexico records in the indoor 600, 800, mile and 3000, having set each mark within the past calendar year. She is just one of two Lobos, men or women, to own four school records.
This is the second indoor athlete of the week honor for New Mexico in 2013, as Amber Menke earned the recognition on Jan. 15. Prior to this season, the Lobos had been recognized with a MW Indoor Athlete of the Week just four times, and only twice since 2003.
Wyoming junior Mason Finley was selected on the men's side.
