Stevens: Franklin's Lobos Are Loaded On Both Men's & Women's SideWhen a program comes off a sizzling season of brilliancy and record setting, sometimes you are a bit wary about asking a coach about an encore. It's not always easy to repeat excellence or add another layer of wonderment. It's not that way with Coach Joe Franklin and his 2010 Lobo men's and women's cross country teams. They seem to have sprinkled some fairy dust on their cleats and have unwavering visions of unbroken finish lines waiting a few steps in front of them. Franklin said both teams have blue-chip talent and the depth to be a national power in 2010.

Stevens: Franklin's Lobos Continue To Make Track HistoryNew Mexico's 2009-10 season of track was a history-making campaign dotted with Lobo headliner names such as Emanuel, Fortner, Young, Thomas, Senior, Kirwa, Barnicle and, of course, Joe Franklin. Naturally Franklin, a three-time Mountain West Coach of The Year during the seasons of cross country, indoor and outdoor track, ho-hums his contributions for this dynamic year of running, jumping and throwing. "I just drive the bus," said Franklin. If so, Franklin points this Lobo bus in the right direction and drives it through many a finish line and qualifying mark. The Lobos set records in cross country, indoor and outdoor track during the 2009-10 school year.
