All-America candidate and MWC title contender who will don the Lobos' cherry & silver for the first time in cross country in his final collegiate XC season...10,000m (13th) All-American and an all-Midwest Region and MWC silver medalist in the 5,000 in his debut UNM season last spring after transferring from Arkansas (2005-08)...graduated from Arkansas in December of `08 and enrolled in graduate school at New Mexico in January of `09...two-time all-region cross country runner, NCAA Indoor qualifier in the 5,000m, and an all-Mideast Region honoree in the 5K outdoors for the Razorbacks...two-time all-SEC honoree on the track as well...redshirted indoors last year and will compete in his final indoor and outdoor track seasons in 2010.

2009: (outdoor) Capped his outstanding debut season at UNM by earning All-America honors for the first time in his career in his first trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championships...clocked a time of 29:21.33 on his former home track in Fayetteville, Ark. en route to a 13th place finish - 7 spots above his seed - in the 10,000m...top time of 28:53.20 (May 2 at Stanford) was a career-best and 7th-fastest in UNM history...earned all-Midwest Region honors with a 7th place finish - 3 above his seed - in the 5,000m (14:07.06) in Norman, Okla...career-best 5K time of 14:00.16 (April 17 at Mt. SAC Relays) was good for 8th on the UNM all-time list...ranked 2nd on the team and among the MWC's top-4 in both events...MWC silver medalist in the 5K behind teammate Jacob Kirwa with an altitude adjusted time of 14:06.64 at the nation's highest D-I track stadium in Laramie, Wyo...raced 6 times, running under the NCAA provisional or regional qualifying standard each time leading up to the NCAA Championships...Academic All-MWC.

ARKANSAS:

Attended the University of Arkansas from 2005-08...two-time all-region cross country runner, NCAA Indoor qualifier in the 5,000m, and an all-Mideast Region honoree in the 5K outdoors...two-time all-Southeastern Conference on the track...three-year letterman indoors and in cross country...only competed in one season outdoors.

2008: (cross country) Did not compete.

2007-08: (outdoor) Did not compete.
(indoor) Earned two bronze medals at the SEC Championships in the 3,000m (8:03.29) and the 5,000m (13:56.43)...both were career-best and NCAA provisional qualifying times...ranked 11th in the nation in the 5K and went on to finish 15th (14:43.90) at the NCAA Championships.
(cross country) Earned all-region honors with a 6th place finish (team's No. 2) at the NCAA South Central Region Championships and was 9th (team's No. 3) at the SEC meet...career-best 10K of 29:37.8 at the regional meet...helped the Razorbacks win their 18th consecutive South Central title and 34th straight SEC crown...108th (team's No. 3) at the NCAA Championships (31:10.3) for the 23rd place Hogs.

2006-07: (outdoor) All-region honoree at the NCAA Mideast Championships with a 6th place finish in the 5,000 - one spot shy of an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships...5th in the 10,000 at the SEC Championships (30:23.71)...recorded career-bests of 14:02.19 in the 5K and 3:52.22 in the 1,500.
(indoor) Ran mostly the 3K and 5K...paced his teammates to 5 scoring spots as the rabbit in the 5,000 at the SEC Championships...(cross country) Season-ended with an injury DNF at the SEC Championships.

2005-06: (outdoor) Redshirt season.
(indoor) Anchored the DMR team to a 2nd place finish at the SEC Indoor Championships...10th in the 3,000m at the SEC meet.
(cross country) Earned all-region honors for the first time with a 13th place finish at the NCAA South Central Championships...50th at the SEC meet...an alternate at the NCAA Championships.

HIGH SCHOOL:

A 2005 graduate of Newton (Mass.) North High School...Nike Athlete of the Year, USA Today All-USA Track and Field team honoree, and Track & Field News All-American...was the top-ranked 3,000-meter and 2-mile runner in the country...best 3K time was 8:17.61, while his best indoor and outdoor 2-mile times were 9:01.45 and 8:50, respectively...top mile time was 4:11 and his best 1,500-meter time was 3:50...his cross country teams never lost a league meet during his four years and he was the 2004 state champion...won the Foot Locker Northeast Region and was 6th at the national championship meet...3-time state champion in the outdoor 2-mile and the 2005 indoor 2-mile champion...runner-up in the 2-mile run at the Nike Outdoor Nationals.

PERSONAL:

Born in Boston, Mass., he is the son of Paul Barnicle and Patricia Flynn...graduated in December of 2008 with a degree in Spanish and is enrolled in graduate school (Language, Literacy, and Sociocultural Studies) at UNM.
