NEW MEXICO:Defending NCAA mile champion and NCAA bronze medalist in the 1,500 who also earned NCAA all-Mountain Region honors last year in cross country...coaches say his continued emergence as an standout long distance XC runner is key to his development on the track as an elite international caliber middle distance threat...has scored 10 times in 12 career cross country races and will be counted on to provide a scoring punch at the No. 4 or 5 spots for one of the nation's top XC squads...overall development has been remarkable since arriving at UNM in the fall of 2007 after transferring from Sheffield Hallam University in England...fitness level was so poor when he first arrived that he had to stop and walk briefly during the 8K in his American cross country debut in Albuquerque in Sept. of 2007...since then, however, he has gone on to rewrite the UNM record books and establish himself as one of the greatest track athletes in Lobo history...UNM indoor record holder 800m, mile, 3,000m, and as a member of the distance medley relay (mile anchor leg)...owns UNM 1,500 record outdoors...two-time All-American (mile/1,500m), 2009 MWC Men's Indoor Athlete of the Year, 5-time all-MWC honoree (800m, mile, DMR, 1,500)...program record 5 career MWC Track & Field Athlete of the Week awards, including a record 3 during the 2009 indoor/outdoor seasons.
(indoor) Turned in one of the greatest seasons ever by a UNM track & field athlete...voted MWC Men's Indoor Athlete of the Year after capturing the NCAA mile title at Texas A&M with a time of 4:00.36, becoming the first Lobo to win gold at the NCAA meet since 1977...was the first Lobo ever to qualify for the NCAAs in the mile and entered the race as the No. 5 seed...after being boxed in through a sluggish 400 meters, he escaped the pack and took the lead with roughly 700 meters to go...put away Wisconsin's Craig Miller (4:01.34) with a devastating kick over the final 100 meters...defeated the popular favorite Dorian Ulrey of Arkansas by 1.83 seconds...final 400m was timed in 54.81...teamed with 400m runner Jarrin Solomon (5th) to help the UNM men finish T-16th overall (14 points) - their first top-20 finish since 1984...finished the winter with the MWC's top times in the mile and 3,000m...became the Lobos' first sub 4-minute miler with his school record time of 3:57.91 at Notre Dame (Feb. 7) - his only individual mile race during the regular season...ran an unofficial mile split of 3:55 on the final leg of the Lobos' school record and NCAA qualifying DMR team on March 6 at Notre Dame...led the UNM team to a time of 9:30.38 - best in the MWC and unofficially the 14th fastest in NCAA history by a single school...school record time of 7:56.35 in the 3K at Washington (Feb. 14) was the 10th fastest in the nation...added another school record with an altitude adjusted time of 1:50.15 in a silver medal 800m performance at the MWC Championships...helped the Lobo DMR team finish 2nd (10:05.78) as well at the MWC meet, just 0.26 seconds behind BYU in the closest DMR race in MWC history.
(cross country) Turned in his best cross country season, scoring in all 6 meets and earning all-region honors at the NCAA Mountain Championships (17th, team No. 2)...22nd at the MWC Championships (team No. 5)...career-best 12th in the season-opening Lobo Invitational.
(indoor) Raced 5 times, leading the team in the mile and 800m...ran under the NCAA provisional qualifying standard in the mile 2 times...broke a 24-year-old school record in his first collegiate mile race, clocking a time of 4:02.47 at Notre Dame (Feb. 9)...time ranked 3rd in the MWC and 34th nationally...earned all-MWC honors with a third place finish in the event at the MWC Championships (4:14.62 - altitude adjusted)...also helped the Lobo distance medley team earn a silver medal (9:57.83) at the MWC meet...opened the season with a time of 1:52.15 in the 800 at Northern Arizona...time was the fastest by a Lobo since 1985 at ranked 4th in the MWC...earned MWC Athlete of the Week honors after his performance in South Bend.
(cross country) Was one of 2 UNM men to appear in 6 meets...scored 4 times, running 4th on the team and 36th overall (31:47) in his first 10K at the NCAA Mountain Region Championships...24th at the MWC Championships...clocked a season-best 8K time of 24:58 at the NCAA Pre-Nationals meet in Terre Haute, Ind...led the Lobos' B team and was 5th overall at New Mexico State...Academic All-MWC.
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE:Competed for the City of Sheffield (England) Atheltics Club in 2006 and 2007...top times of 1:52.40 in the 800m and 3:44.83 in the 1,500m, both recorded in `07...graduate of Sheffield Hallam University (Physical Education) and William Parker Sports College high school.
