Seven Lobos Named to USTFCCCA All-Mountain Region Team
Lobo Men's Cross Country Gets At-Large Berth, Joins Women at Nationals Nov. 14, 2011 Colorado Springs, Colo. - Seven Lobos earned All-Mountain Region recognition from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Monday. From the women's team Ruth Senior, Sarah Waldron, Kirsty Milner, Natalie Gray, and Imogen Ainsworth earned the honor, while Ross Millington and Sean Stamgot it for the men. Athletes of member institutions that finished in the top 25 individually at one of the nine NCAA Regional Championship sites last Saturday earned the distinction. The New Mexico women's cross country team received an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship after tying Colorado for first-place honors at the Mountain Regional on Saturday in Provo, Utah. The Lobo men earned an at-large bid after finishing fourth in the 10K race at the Mountain Regional. The five women on the All-Region team makes 18 selections in the last four years for UNM. For Senior, it's her third straight year on the team. Gray, Waldron, and Milner were All-Region in 2010, and this is Ainsworth's first honor. It marks the second straight year Millington earned All-Region honors, and he and Stam are the 13th and 14th Lobos in the last four years to earn the honor.
Five other Mountain West student-athletes made All-Region, including TCU junior Agnes Kemboi, who punched her ticket as an individual qualifier to 2011 NCAA Cross Country Championships by pacing the Horned Frogs at the South Central Regional on Saturday in Waco, Texas. 2011 USTFCCCA Cross Country All-Region Recipients Male: Female: |
