Peterson, Garver Named MW Co-Players of the Year

University of New Mexico sophomore third baseman DJ Peterson and junior catcher Mitchell Garver were named Mountain West Co-Players of the Year Tuesday as voted on by the conference's coaches. They were two of 11 Lobos named to the First and Second Teams as the Lobos dominated the voting. UNM head coach Ray Birmingham was also named Coach of the Year.

The University of New Mexico team clinched at least a share of the Mountain West regular-season championship with an 11-5 victory over Air Force on Senior Day at Isotopes Park Saturday afternoon in front of 1,690 fans. This is UNM's first regular-season conference championship since the 2000 season.

Las Vegas, Nev. --- Sitting with a 4-2 lead entering the bottom of the sixth inning, things looked oh-so-good for the New Mexico Lobos. Just like that, it went oh-so-wrong. UNLV scored three in the sixth, and two in the eighth as the Rebels took advantage of some poor defense as the shorthanded Lobos dropped the series opener 7-4 on Friday night.
