Salas will see time in the outfield and is also one of the Lobos' most effective relievers...explosive hitter at the plate. 2003 (Junior) - First-team All-Mountain West selection as a DH...ranked in the top 10 in the Mountain West in eight offensive categories and two pitching categories, including second in home runs (16), tied for second in total bases (158) and third in slugging percentage (.664)...drove in 56 runs and blasted 21 doubles...collected 59 runs and 87 hits...had a career-high 10-game hitting streak...one of three players to have played and started in all 30 of the Lobos' MWC games...notched a homer in three consecutive games (3/29-4/2)...had two hits, three RBI and a run scored in UNM's win over No. 7 Arizona State while also pitching the final two innings to hold on for the victory...went 4-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored against Utah (3/21)...had eight games with at least three RBI...had six RBI in a three-game series with BYU (4/17-19)...became first collegiate player to hit a home run in Isotopes Park (5/9)...tied for fourth in the MWC in appearances (23) and games in relief (23)...tallied four saves...struck out 27 batters in 24.1 innings. 2002 (Sophomore) - Salas appeared in 14 games as a reliever and posted the team's lowest ERA at 3.79...1-0 with two saves...fanned 20 in 19 innings...saves came against New Mexico State (3/4) and Utah (3/17)...four strikeouts twice...pitched a season-high three innings against Northwestern...hit .295 with five home runs and 37 RBI in 50 games, including 43 starts...career-high five RBI against Toledo (3/9), going 2-4 with a double...had three hits five times...scored two runs seven times...had nine outfield assists...played for the Salinas Packers of the California Coastal League in the summer and hit .287 with 24 RBI... hit a robust .431 with two homers and 17 RBI in fall intrasquad games. 2001 (Freshman) - One of the top freshman in the conference, hitting .297 with five homers and 40 RBI (T3rd on team)...second on the team with three triples...four outfield assists was tops on team...15 multi-hit games and 10 multi-RBI contests...season-high four RBI vs. AFA (4/1), going 3-6 with two homers...four of his five homers came in a four-game stretch (4/1-8)...longest hitting streak was eight games (13-31, .419)...first career home run was vs. Navy (3/17)... MWC Tournament...5-14 with 5 RBI, including season-high tying four RBI vs. BYU in a semifinal loss. High School - Was a four-year letterwinner for coach Orlando Griego at Rio Grande HS...as a senior, team went 24-1 and advanced to the state playoffs...hit .494 with six home runs, 15 doubles and 55 RBI...was also 11-0 with a 2.93 ERA and 126 strikeouts on the mound...led the state in strikeouts and threw a no-hitter against Gallup...had 18 strikeouts vs. Manzano ...was named first team all-state, all-city and all-district...as a junior, batted .408 with 6 HR, 25 RBI, three triples, four doubles, 26 runs scored and seven stolen bases ...named first team all-district and second team all-city...was also a three-year letterwinner in football.
