Lobo Baseball Returns the Favor and Defeats UNLV, 7-3

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Senior Max Willett went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored to lead the University of New Mexico Lobo baseball team to a 7-3 win over UNLV at Wilson Stadium tonight. The win ties the weekend series at one game apiece. The Lobos improve to 18-10 on the season and 5-3 in Mountain West Conference play. The Rebels fall to 16-11 and 2-3.
The Lobos put up a five spot in the top of the fourth and never looked back. With the bases loaded, sophomore Ben Woodchick singled to score senior Chris Juarez from third base. With two outs and the bases loaded again, Willett singled to left field and scored Woodchick from second base and freshman Alex Allbritton from third to make the score 3-0. With runners on first and second, senior Justin Howard hit a double that scored senior Daniel Gonzalez and Willett for the final two runs of the inning, 5-0.
UNLV picked up three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Lobos added a run in the seventh and eighth innings to make the final score, 7-3
Led by Willett, the Lobos picked up seven runs on 11 hits against four Rebel pitchers. Howard went 1-for-5 on the night with two RBIs and a double. Juarez went 3-for-4 with one run scored and senior Cameron Smith went 2-for-4. Woodchick was 1-for-1 with one RBI.
Junior Richard Olson (3-2) picked up his second consecutive win throwing 5.2 innings, giving up three runs on eight hits. Olson had four strikeouts on the night.
