Baseball: Lobos Blank Highlands, 8-0
Complete Release in PDF Format Albuquerque, N.M. -- At a chilly Lobo Field Saturday, junior pitcher James Vermilyea turned in a dominant performance on the mound, pitching a complete game shutout of visiting New Mexico Highlands. Vermilyea (1-0) also struck out seven, as the Lobo ace finally got into the win column this year. Andrew Padilla took the loss for the Cowboys (0-5), giving up 10 hits and four earned runs. A number of Lobos (2-2) shined at the plate as well. Matt Young was 3-for-5 on the day, with one RBI, Joe Salas and Chris Alexander each doubled twice, and both Jeff Grady and Cory Lizarraga tripled for the Lobos. Dusty Young hit his second home run of the season, a two-run shot in the bottom of the 8th that sailed over the left field fence.
The Lobos are in action again Sunday, facing Highlands at Lobo Field for the second game of the three-game series. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
