Lobos, Rebels Both Ranked Entering Wednesday's Showdown

The two hottest teams in the Mountain West meet Wednesday at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas. New Mexico (21-3, 7-2 MWC), winners of seven straight, visits a UNLV (19-4, 7-2 MWC) team that has won five in a row. UNM's last loss? 74-62 to the Runnin' Rebels in The Pit on Jan. 9. Tip-off Wednesday is 9:05 p.m. Mountain Time. The Lobos are 15th in the A.P. poll and moved up to No. 19 in the ESPN/USA Today list. UNLV is back in the rankings, checking in at No. 23 by A.P. and 25th in the coaches' poll. This is just the second time both teams have been ranked going into the game. STEVENS: Lobos' Hobson Scores 29 as UNM Beats SDSU 88-86 In Overtime

Lobo TV: Postgame Press Conference

It was a nail-biter, a cliffhanger, a Pit classic, a battle of Mountain West heavyweights as Lobos and Aztecs played dead even for 44 minutes and 57 seconds. However, the final three seconds of overtime went to the Lobos as junior Darington Hobson tossed in two free throws to give New Mexico an 88-86 overtime win over the San Diego State Aztecs. The Lobos, who were once in the MWC cellar at 0-2, are now tied for the league lead with Brigham Young and UNLV at 7-2. The Lobos visit the UNLV Rebs on Wednesday.

Saturday: Lobos 88, San Diego State 86
Wednesday: Lobos at UNLV, 9 p.m., Thomas & Mack

STEVENS: Lobos Vs. Aztecs A Game of Irony, Deja Vu & Much More

The Lobos vs. San Diego State game is a contest of déjà vu, a game of redemption, a game of irony, a revenge game, a must game, a sold-out game, a TV game, a game nobody should miss. The good thing about déjà vu is that even though there are intense similarities, there also are differences. You feel déjà vu in the present tense. The present tense Saturday will be staged in The Pit with a sold-out University Arena doing its rowdy thing to make sure history doesn't repeat itself on the scoreboard.

Saturday: San Diego State at Lobos, 4 p.m., The Pit
Radio: 770 KKOB-AM / Lobo Radio Network
TV: The Mtn. (Comcast 276, DirecTV 616)
