Steve Alford's Lobos posted their first-ever MWC tourney win with a hard-fought 75-69 win over the Falcons. Yep, there is still something else to reach for, still another way to spoil the day for their Mountain West Conference brothers. MWC Awards: Alford is Coach of Year; Hobson is Player of The YearUNM Conference Tournament Notes The Mountain West Conference announced its 2009-10 men's basketball awards today. New Mexico head coach Steve Alford captured MWC Coach of the Year honors for the second straight year, while New Mexico's Darington Hobson was named both the Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year. After never earning coach of the year honors in his first 13 seasons at the Div. I level, Alford has made it two in a row after leading UNM to consecutive Mountain West Conference regular-season titles. Hobson, a 6-7, 205-pound junior guard, is the first individual to receive both the MWC Player and Newcomer of the Year awards in the same season.
