We got up a little early this morning and went to campus to pass out doughnuts and hot chocolate to the students waiting in line for tickets. It was great to see such a good turnout. I heard we gave out over 100 tickets between 7:30 and 10:00 a.m. at the Center for the Arts ticket window at Popejoy Hall. Students are still picking them up at the UNM Bookstore and the Ticket Office at The Pit. Here is a pic of myself and some of the coaches and the group of students who got the first tickets this morning.

Here is a quick update from practice today. We went in The Pit which is something we don't usually do because the Davalos Center, with six goals, is just too good of a set up for practice. However, we want to make sure guys are familiar with the surroundings of our home arena. Also, we entertained a group of students at the end of practice and it was much easier to do that in The Pit.

First of all, J.R. had missed a few practices with an ankle injury, but he was back today. He looked good and had a couple of nice slams during our scrimmages that made it look like he was feeling better. Also, Tony rode the stationary bike without his boot on for most of the practice. He still has to use crutches and wears a boot on his broken leg the rest of the time, but his rehab seems to be going well.

Finally, back to the students. We had about 50 diehards come to the end of practice to meet the team, work on some cheers and chants and get ready for the season to start on Friday. The first student ticket distribution will be tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m. (M.D.T.) and we hope to see a long line in the morning. We are going to be there to show them how much we appreciate their support.

We opened up practice yesterday to the media, along with a few others who stopped by to see what is going on. Check out the photo gallery above for some pics from Friday. Most of the shots are of the new guys, but the returners are also working their way into shape. Don't forget that season tickets go on sale Monday morning at the ticket office at The Pit. Ian Martin had me on his show to talk about season tickets and few other Lobo related items on Friday morning. Sorry I had to cut it short but I was between flights trying to back to Albuquerque. Here it is if you missed it.

Now is certainly an exciting time to be a part of the Lobo men's basketball program. Season tickets go on sale on Monday to the general public and there is a buzz surrounding that event. If you want to get in early on what is going on around The Pit, be sure to go by the ticket office on Monday and get your tickets.

I saw the new regional cover of the Athlon college basketball preview and J.R. made the front. He and the rest of the team are all working hard in the offseason and can't wait to really get started. Practice officially begins in exactly two weeks and the Lobo Howl is set for Friday, Oct. 12, at 7:00 p.m. That will be everyone's first chance to see this year's Lobos and it will be a lot of fun.

Our staff has been hitting the recruiting trail hard this summer and it seems to be paying off. We recently heard that ESPN.com rated our '08 recruiting class No. 9 in the nation. That is big news for us and we are working to continue that trend for all of our future recruiting classes.

On last thing, someone on campus dug up this old video of the first game in The Pit and posted it on the University's web site. This is a great clip...and it is in color. There is a nice dunk by Mel Daniels in front of a sold-out house against Abilene Christian. I am sure it is nostalgic for Lobos fans and brings back a lot of memories. It shows a packed Pit and that is what we need for every game this season. Be sure to get your tickets next week and help us fill The Pit every night.

There has been a lot of work going on in The Pit lately and it has been fun watching the new floor being painted. I think you will like the new design. I know our guys love what they see so far and can't wait to start playing on it. You can click here to see a photo gallery of the new Pit floor.

I had a chance to go in studio with Ian Martin on 610 AM this morning. Once we figured ou how to get the elevator to stop on the fifth floor, everything went great. You would think it would be as simple as pushing "5", but I promise you...it wasn't. We had a lot of fun and if you missed the interview, you can listen to it on All Access for free by clicking here.
