We just added two more game times to the schedule. The Jan. 24 contest at TCU is set for 6:00 p.m. (MT) while the game at Colorado State on Feb. 28 will be a 7:00 p.m. (MT) tip. Once we get the remaining game times, you will be able to download our schedule straight to Microsoft Outlook. This is a new feature on our website that a lot of you have been asking for.

Looks like everyone wants to play in The Pit. Even 14-time grand slam tennis champion Pete Sampras. He squared off in an exhibition match against 2008 U.S. Open round of 16 competitor Sam Querrey on Friday night. It was a very interesting set up, but the 5,000 fans that were there really seemed to enjoy it. Pete and Sam wanted get up a few shots to get warm for the match, so they came to the Davalos Center. We got to take the shot below with both of them and it was a big treat for myself and the rest of the team. Any chance we have to expose our guys to someone who is widely considered to be the best at what he or she does, we jump at the opportunity.

Some of the preseason magazines are starting to come out with their season previews. You might see a familiar face on the cover of some of these. For example, look for the Athlon College Basketball Preview on newsstands starting today.

I was sorry to hear about the passing of Don Haskins yesterday. I had the good fortune of playing against him when I was in school. In fact, I think UTEP beat us down in El Paso. That was the only time I got to play against one of Coach Haskins' teams. Obviously, he did a lot for the game of basketball and was a true pioneer. He was somebody I respected a great deal mainly through my relationship with Coach Knight because I know how much Coach Knight respected him.

I ran into one of the Special Olympians at the football game this weekend she was kind enough to send me a picture. I really enjoyed the work we did this summer with the Special Olympics Sports Auction and Golf Classic. We can't wait to do it again next year. Hopefully it will be even better.

A few updates for today...as you may have heard, Daniel turned his ankle this week. He is fine and Smitty has him in a walking boot for the next day or so, just to be safe. He is already lifting and riding the bike, so he could be back as early as next Thursday for our individual workouts.

The date for the game at Air Force was up in the air until today. It will be on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 8:00 p.m. and will be televised on CBS College Sports.

Finally, we posted some travel information for the Cancun Challenge over Thanksgiving on the site. You can find out about travel packages here.

When we were on the 6th Man golf trip last month, we realized that there was not one former men's basketball player on the trip. We knew we needed to work to get our alumni more involved. Today we had a great lunch meeting with a small group of former Lobo basketball players to talk about getting back involved with what we are doing. The feedback was excellent and we hope see these guys around the program more and more. The list of Lobo legends included Hunter Greene, Bob Toppert, George Scott, Mike Winters, Jim Williams, Ron Nelson, Ira Harge, J.J. Griego, Lewis Lamar, Greg Brown, Notch Neves and Rob Robbins.

Here is a quick pic of the group in the hospitality room at the Davalos Center. One of our big events of the year will be the Almuni Day at the Ole Miss game on December 13. If you are a men's basketball alumni and you want to be involved with the Alumni Day, make sure we have your contact information. You can send a feedback from this page or call the office at (505) 925-5750.

We started our individual sessions this week at the Davalos Center and our guys are looking good. They have been working hard all summer because they know that the work in the offseason is what will help us build on the success we had last year.

There are a couple of new faces in our program I wanted to recognize. Chris Monette is our new video coordinator who recently joined the program. He is a native of Albuquerque and a graduate of Cibola High School. He earned his degree at UNLV, where he was a team manager, but we will try not to hold that against him. His most recent stop was in Kansas where he was an assistant coach at Garden City Community College last year. You may remember his younger brother, Mikal, who was a Lobo in 2003-04.

Also new to the team is freshman Chris Johansen. Johansen is a walk-on from St. Pius High School here in Albuquerque. The 6-4 guard led St. Pius to the last three New Mexico 4A state titles and will be a great addition to our program.

One final note, and probably the most important. We welcomed back all of our guys last week with a little coaches vs. players softball game at Lobo Field. For the record, the coaches KILLED the players 28-8.
