STEVENS: Lobos Doomed By Utah's Third-Quarter surge

Lobo coach Mike Locksley probably summed it up in words about as tightly as you could want: "The momentum swing hit us." Yeah, Mr. Mo hit the University of New Mexico hard as the Utah Utes exploded for 21 third-quarter points and broke out of a 17-7 halftime lead en route to a 45-14 Mountain West Conference win over the Lobos Saturday night in Salt Lake City. The Lobos will try to get a notch on the win side of their ledger this coming Saturday against BYU in Albuquerque.

STEVENS: Lobos Visit Utah Utes Hoping For Major Upset

The Lobos march into Salt Lake City to face the No. 14-ranked (BCS) team in the nation clinging to flashes of optimism, some recent improvement, and the eternal hope carried in the hearts of most athletes. But is that enough good stuff to take on the Mountain West Conference road and slap down a major MWC bully in its own back yard? "We've got a tough challenge ahead of us this week with a team that's ranked," said Lobo coach Mike Locksley. "It`s a Utah team that perennially is one of the top teams, not only in our conference, but in the country."

STEVENS: Honorable Lobos Face Judgments of Public Opinion

Lobos Paul Krebs and David Schmidly stand in a courtroom of public opinion filled with facts, figures and innuendos. It is an environment influenced by the edgy climate surrounding an embattled and winless football program. Krebs and Schmidly face the controversy admitting errors, but braced by time-tested histories of integrity and success. This is the nature of their high-level jobs. They will be judged by their decisions, their successes and even their stumbles.

Quotes From The Tucanos Media Luncheon

Check out what head coach Mike Locksley had to say this afternoon at the Tucanos Media Luncheon, held in the new End Zone Club on the third floor of the L.F. "Tow" Diehm Athletics Facility. New Mexico visits No. 16 Utah on Saturday to resume what has been a balanced series since the two teams joined the Mountain West Conference.
