NEW MEXICO: Walk-on from Goddard High School who earned considerable playing time as a true freshman at running back ... will switch to the defensive secondary in 2013 to add athleticism and depth to the unit ... a tough, hard-working player who understands the game ... spring practice in 2013 will be valuable time as he makes the transition to defense and improves with repetitions and experience ... coaching staff is excited about his potential. 2012 (FRESHMAN): Played in all 13 games, making two starts when the Lobos opened in a two-backfield set ... rushed 13 times for 71 yards and added a one reception for six yards on the season ... the best game of his career came in the season opener against Southern when he rushed for 65 yards on just seven carrries and had a career-long 32-yard run ... also a big contributor on special teams ... returned seven kicks for an average of 23.1 yards per game, including a career-long 32-yarder ... served as the New Mexico Man during UNM's games at New Mexico State on Sept. 22 and at home vs. Boise State on Sept. 29 (the New Mexico Man is a designated walk-on who leads the team onto the field with the New Mexico state flag prior to the start of a game ... the New Mexico Man is selection on a weekly basis out of dedication, work ethic, team spirit and unselfishness that exemplifies Lobo football. HIGH SCHOOL: A member of the four-time District 4-4A champion Goddard Rockets and coach Sam Jernigan ... the Coyotes also won state championships in 2008 and 2009 ... also wrestled at Goddard, winning the 182-pound District title. PERSONAL: Parents are Lynda and Raymond Anaya ... has an older brother, Desmond, who was a senior defensive lineman at New Mexico State in 2012 ... the two brothers played against each other when the Lobos visited the Aggies on Sept. 22, 2012. |
