Former walk-on who came out of nowhere two years ago to establish himself as a key member of the defensive front...one of the Lobos' most experienced players up front, who has started 20 of his last 25 games at nose tackle...has added over 20 pounds over the past two years and developed into a stout interior presence...smart player who understands the game well...strong run stopper and has steadily improved as a pass rusher as well...breakthrough on the field began with tremendous improvement in the weight room...max of 330 in the bench, 306 in the power clean and 520 in the squat...was listed as a third string defensive end entering preseason camp in `06 and was a longshot to even crack the travel squad before bursting onto the scene...joined the team as a walk-on LB/DE in 2004, but sat out the fall of `05 while he got his academics in order...dad, Curlin, played running back at West Virginia from 1979-82.

2007 (JUNIOR):
Lost his starting job briefly, but worked his way back into the lineup and played his best football over the final 6 games...32 tackles in 13 games (10 starts) on the year, including 22 in the last 6 contests...did a nice job of tying up blockers and creating a disruptive push up the middle...career-high 5.5 tackle for loss (4 solo, 3 assisted), including a sack...officially credited for 1 forced fumble...unofficially caused another, however, when he drove Air Force's center into the QB to jar the ball loose, which he then recovered...solid job rushing the passer, as well, recording 6 QB hurries/hits.

`07 HIGHLIGHTS: vs. Nevada (New Mexico Bowl)...2 stops and a QB hurry to help a stalwart defensive effort against the nation's No. 7 offense...UNM held the Wolf Pack to 210 yards - 279 under its regular season average - including just 73 rushing - 153 under its average - on 30 attempts...vs. UNLV...Another active game up front, tallying 3 stops, including a 3-yard TFL...also had a QB hurry...helped the Lobo defense limit the Rebels to just 233 yards - their 2nd-lowest of the season...at Utah...Dropped elusive QB Brian Johnson for his first career sack (-5 yards) and finished with 3 tackles...did a nice job of eliminating the running lanes to frustrate one of the league's top rushing offenses...Utah had just 32 yards on 20 2nd half rushing attempts (138 total)...vs. Colorado State...Continued his strong play with another 6-tackle (4 solo) performance...did a nice job of chasing the ball, making several stops in lateral pursuit...at TCU...Season-high 6 tackles with a career-high 1.5 tackles for loss in his return to the starting lineup...vs. Air Force...Credited for just 2 tackles, but turned in one of the best performances of his career to help UNM hold the nation's No. 6 rushing offense 48 yards under its average, including just 73 yards on 24 2nd half attempts (3.0 avg.)...came off the bench to provide a big push up the middle, helping to shut down the dive play...stuffed standout Chad Hall for a loss and one more time for no gain on 3rd-and-3 for his 2 tackles...set up what proved to be the game-winning FG when he drove the center into QB Shaun Carney, causing a bobbled exchange, and then dove on the loose ball at the Air Force 28...vs. BYU...Turned in his most productive game of the early season, getting in on 4 tackles, including 2 for loss...helped the Lobo defense hold the powerful Cougar offense 130 yards under its season average.

2006 (SOPHOMORE):
Did not play in the season-opener and came off the bench in his first two appearances, but was a fixture in the starting lineup in the final 10 games, anchoring the middle of the defensive line...36 stops on the year, including 2 in the backfield.

`06 SEASON HIGHLIGHTS: vs. San Jose State (New Mexico Bowl)...Strong all around game...got in on 3 tackles to help the Lobo defense limit the Spartans to 87 yards rushing - nearly 100 under their regular season average - and also had 2 QB hurries...vs. San Diego State...Did a fine job clogging up the running lanes, making 3 tackles (2 solo) to help limit the Aztecs to 104 yards on the ground...vs. TCU...Part of a sensational defensive performance against one of the league's most balanced offenses...notched 3 tackles, helping the Lobos limit the Horned Frogs to just 29 second half rushing yards on 16 attempts (1.8 avg.)...at Colorado State...Excellent effort up front, helping to shut down the Rams' running game (37 yards on 26 carries - 1.4 avg.)...recorded 3 tackles, including 1 for loss in 30 snaps...vs. Utah...Turned in another strong performance at home, recording 5 tackles...notched his first tackle for loss, clogging the hole and sending the RB sprawling backwards with a big hit...vs. Wyoming...Got in on a season-high 6 tackles to help a solid defensive performance...vs. UTEP...Made his first career start and recorded the first 5 tackles of his career in a breakthrough performance...also credited for a QB hurry and helped the Lobos' front-7 shut down the UTEP running game (30 yards, 1.3 avg.)...helped stuff the Miners for no gain on a 4th-and-1 play from the UNM 11 in the 2nd quarter.

A 2004 graduate of Houston-area Klein (Texas) HS...second team all-district performer and a team captain for head coach Stan Labay...had 89 tackles and three sacks as a senior...also lettered in track and basketball, where he was an honorable mention all-district pick.
