NEW MEXICO:

Four-year letterman who enjoyed a breakout campaign as a senior, thriving at defensive tackle in the Lobos' new 4-3 system...excellent quickness off the snap and was an intense, physical presence in the trenches...developed into one of the vocal leaders on defense as well...with inexperienced back-ups at DT, coaches counted on him to play a lot of snaps in 2009...was a regular in the defensive line rotation, playing 47 games (13 starts) at both end and tackle during his career...made his debut as a true freshman four games into the 2006 season...added 15 pounds to his frame over his final two years and made real strides in the weight room, developing into one of the most powerful players on the team...played at the same high school that sent all-MWC cornerback Gabriel Fulbright (2002-05) to UNM...he and his wife, Luella, were married on Feb. 8, 2008....the couple had their first daughter, Makaela, on June 6, 2009.

2009 (SENIOR): Honorable Mention All-MWC selection who emerged as one of the most active, agile defensive tackles in the league...ranked fourth in the MWC (T-42nd nationally) and led all defensive tackles with 13.5 tackles for loss (13 solo, 1 assisted)...entered the season with just 3.5 career TFL...outstanding first half of the year, earning midseason 2nd team all-MWC recognition from Phil Steele's College Football Preview magazine, and continued his success in the second half...career-high 46 total tackles, including a career-best 3.0 sacks...also a forced fumble, had 2 fumble recoveries, batted down 3 passes, and blocked a field goal and an extra point...credited with 14 QB hurries/hits as well...named co-Defensive Captain of the Year at the team banquet and shared the Most Improved Player Award with WR Daryl Jones.

`09 HIGHLIGHTS:
vs. No. 22 BYU...One of the stars in a gritty defensive effort...made all 3 solo tackles in the Cougar backfield, including a 6-yard sack...3.0 TFL matched his career-high and helped hold BYU to just 41 yards rushing...also had 2 QB hits/hurries.

at San Diego State...5 tackles, including 2 tackles for loss and an 8-yard sack...sack came on a 3rd-and-6 play to force a punt...also recovered a fumble to set-up the Lobos' first TD.

vs. New Mexico State...6 stops, including 2 solo tackles in the backfield, to help limit the Aggies to a mere 2.2-yard average on their 56 rushing attempts...both TFL came inside the UNM 25...also had 2 QB hits/hurries.

vs. Air Force...8 stops, including a 3-yard TFL...recovered a fumble and blocked a 42-yard FG at the end of the 1st half...knocked Air Force starting QB Tim Jefferson out of the game in the 1st quarter after a hit.

vs. Tulsa...Strong effort, making a career-high 3 of his 4 tackles behind the line of scrimmage...sacked and stripped elusive QB G.J. Kinne deep in Lobo territory, resulting in LB Tray Hardaway's 92-yard fumble return for a TD...it was his first sack since 2006...also hit/hurried Kinne twice, matching a career-high for the second straight week.

at Texas A&M...Career-high 9 tackles, including 1.5 TFL in his second straight season opening start...also matched his career best with 2 QB hits/hurries...played the bulk of the game on the warm, humid night.

2008 (JUNIOR): 15 tackles, including 3 assisted TFLs (1.5 total)...also had 5 QB hurries and a fumble recovery in 12 games...made a pair of tackles in his first career start vs. TCU (35 snaps at DE)...began rotating in off the bench in week 2, backing up Wesley Beck at NT...4 stops and a TFL at Tulsa in week 4...tied his career-high with 2 QB hurries at New Mexico State in week 5.

2007 (SOPHOMORE): Appeared in all 13 games, coming off the bench to play defensive end...9 tackles, including an assisted TFL on the year...also recorded 5 QB hurries.

2006 (TRUE FRESHMAN): Played in the final 10 games of the season after making his collegiate debut in week 4 vs. UTEP...it was the most games a UNM true freshman defensive lineman has played since 1994 (NT Brett Lucksinger - 10)...he was also the first rookie lineman to see gameday action since 1998 (LeJonta McGowan)...finished with 19 tackles, including 1.5 sacks...also had 3 QB hurries, forced a fumble and broke up a pass...season-high 4 tackles at Air Force...sacked and stripped UNLV QB Shane Steichen late in the fourth quarter to set up a Lobo TD...Academic All-MWC honoree.
