NEW MEXICO: Two-year letterman who was enjoying an outstanding spring and pushing for a significant role in the new offense before suffering a torn ACL in one of the final scrimmages in mid-April...expected to miss all of 2009 while he recovers from surgery...moved to running back during the spring of `08 after playing DB his first two years...hits the holes hard, has excellent speed in the open field (4.57 in the 40), and does a nice job of keeping his legs churning in traffic...coaches say he has good command of the offense and they will rely on him to help the Lobos' young RB corps from the sidelines this season...sprinted for the Lobo track team during the winter of 2007...led the team with a time of 6.99 in the 60 meter and finished seventh in the event at the MWC Indoor Championships. 2008 (REDSHIRT FRESHMAN): Played just six snaps in his lone game appearance, but turned heads with his performance late in the fourth quarter vs. San Diego State (week 8)...ripped off 62 yards on just 3 carries against the Aztecs...picked up 21 on his first career attempt then went 37 yards down the sideline for a TD on his second carry. 2007 (REDSHIRT FRESHMAN): Saw action in five games, almost exclusively on special teams. HIGH SCHOOL: A 2006 graduate of Phoenix Cesar Chavez High School...versatile player and excellent student who saw time at linebacker, safety, cornerback and running back in his prep career...first team all-league as a senior, gaining 1,212 yards on just 174 carries (7.0 ypc) and 15 TDs for head coach Dan Widmaier...set school records for season and career rushing...also 47 tackles on defense and he was the Homecoming king as a senior...team captain in football and track...ran the 200 and 400 meters in track...took 7th in the state 400 as a junior...because of honors classes taken, he had a 4.4 grade-point-average on a 4.0 scale...also scored an impressive 1420 on his SAT and served as student-body president...additional activities included the National Honor Society, City of Phoenix Youth and Education Commission and City of Phoenix Wake Up Club...also performed a lot of community service: master of ceremonies for freshmen orientation, cooking for the needy and the homeless and serving as a counselor and speaker to kids.
