Returning starter who will open preseason camp atop the depth chart at right outside linebacker...saw significant time on defense for the first time in his career in 2006...made his first start in week 2 at New Mexico State in place of an injured Cody Kase and stayed in the starting lineup the rest of the regular season...27 career games, including 14 appearances exclusively on special teams in 2004 and `05...big, physical player who has really improved his focus and concentration...has done a better job of putting himself in a position to make plays...has added over 20 pounds in the past two years and continues to improve his strength in the weight room...a redshirt in 2003...three-time Academic All-MWC honoree who graduated last May with a degree in Marketing Management...winner of the 2007 Lobo Club Male Student-Athlete of the Year award...very active in the community, volunteering his time as a mentor for at-risk teens, providing food and clothing to the homeless through area churches...also worked with the UNM African-American studies program and professor David Hilliard to plant and maintain gardens in inner city neighborhoods...is the nephew of former Lobo tailback Mike Carter, who was a four-year letterman at UNM between 1978-82...Carter ranks in the top-10 all-time at UNM with 2,364 career rushing yards.

Didn't see much time in the season opener, but was an impact player in the last 12 games, including 11 starts...33 tackles on the year, including 5.0 for loss, and 4 QB hurries...entered the season with 2 career tackles, both on special teams...also had a pass break-up during the fall.

`06 HIGHLIGHTS:

vs. Utah...Credited for just 2 tackles, but secured the biggest come-from-behind victory in school history when he pulled down Utah QB Brett Ratliff short of the marker on a 4th-and-2 play from the UNM 48 with 1 minute to play...at Air Force...Good effort to lead a solid defensive performance against one of the nation's most challenging offenses...notched 4 tackles, including 2 solo stops in the backfield, as the Falcons were held to 281 yards of total offense, 107 under their average...vs. UTEP...Got in on 4 tackles to help shut down the Miner running game (30 yds., 1.3 avg.)...vs. Missouri...Made his second straight start, this time opposite Cody Kase, and finished with 4 stops (3 solo) in 53 plays...did a nice job of defeating blockers to snuff out Tiger screen plays and helped the Lobo D hold Mizzou to 130 yards under its season average...at New Mexico State...Recorded a career-high 7 tackles, tripling his two-year total entering the night...made his first career start in place of an injured Cody Kase...also got in on 2 tackles for loss and broke up a pass in 75 active snaps...helped the Lobos limit the Aggies to 60 yards rushing (2.0 avg.).

HIGH SCHOOL:

A 2003 graduate of Albuquerque (N.M.) HS...three-year starter at linebacker and fullback for Albuquerque High...all-state linebacker as a senior when he had 151 tackles, 14 tackles for loss and 3 sacks...also rushed for 423 yards and had 17 knockdown blocks...finished his career ranked fifth all-time at AHS for career rushing attempts and yards...played for head coach Ken Barreras...very active in school...Student Body President and Black Student Union President as a senior...also Class President his sophomore and junior years...a 3.3 cumulative grade-point-average.
