NEW MEXICO: Returning starter at corner who showed flashes of being a real playmaker in the secondary in his debut season last fall...has also spent time at safety during practice and could get a look there during training camp...brings good size and excellent speed (4.52 in the 40) to the secdary and has shown the ability to be a true standout in the coming years as he continues to increase his strength and understanding of the defense...former prep teammate Freddy Young is also among those young Lobos vying for time in the secondary...UNM senior receiver Chris Hernandez also played at Mayfield HS, graduating in 2006.

2009 (REDSHIRT FRESHMAN): Played in 11 games, starting 6 times... missed the 2nd half of the 8th game at San Diego State with a concussion and did not play in game 9 at Utah...shared time with true freshman Emmanuel McPhearson late in the season...made his first career start in place of injured DeShawn Mills - a fellow RS freshman - in week 4 vs. New Mexico State...23 tackles on the year, including 2.0 for loss (1 solo, 2 assisted)...3 pass break-ups - all coming in the end zone - and led the team with 2 interceptions, including 1 inside the UNM 5...also returned a fumble 10 yards to set-up a FG against NMSU.

`09 HIGHLIGHTS: vs. UNLV...Career-high 8 tackles and batted away back-to-back fade passes in 1-on-1 end zone coverage to hold the Rebels to a 3rd quarter FG...no TDs allowed...at Texas Tech...Was one of the Lobos' defensive stars of the game in his 2nd career start...picked off QB Taylor Potts - who entered the game as the nation's leading passer - twice...reached behind and made a sensational fingertip grab at the UNM 4-yard line in the 1st quarter...later went up in zone coverage and grabbed an underthrown ball midfield to set-up the Lobos' first TD in the 2nd quarter...jumped to break-up a pass in the end zone in man coverage and recorded 2 of his 4 tackels behind the line of scrimmage.

HIGH SCHOOL: A 2008 graduate of Las Cruces Mayfield High School...first team all-state at wide receiver and defensive back as a senior...also played running back, quarterback and punted for the 3-time state champion Trojans...Mayfield finished 12-1 and beat Clovis 49-48 in overtime to win the 2007 title...27 receptions for 607 yards and 10 TDs...a team-high 7 interceptions, including one returned for a TD in the win over Clovis...2 punt returns for TDs...played for head coach Michael Bradley...also a pitcher and catcher for the baseball team.
