NEW MEXICO: Returning letterman who moved from linebacker to defensive end prior to spring ball, and the switch proved to be fruitful...might have made the biggest impact of anyone on defense in 15 spring workouts...will now contend for a starting position...his speed and quickness was really on display...coaches have said he has all the physical tools to be a future star as he matures...looks to be fully recovered from a torn ACL suffered in August of 2009...a redshirt in 2008.
2010 (SOPHOMORE): Played in 11 games as a sophomore...had 16 tackles in a back-up linebacker role...had a career-high six tackles at BYU including a TFL...finished the year with two TFL and a half sack against Wyoming...had at least one tackle in the last five games he played in.
HIGH SCHOOL: A 2008 graduate of Denver George Washington High School...all-state linebacker as a senior when he totaled 139 tackles, 14 sacks, 6 interceptions, 4 forced fumbles and 3 fumble recoveries...a three-year starter at linebacker and running back for head coach Steve Finesilver...returned 2 interceptions and a fumble for TDs...also 1,300 yards rushing...the Colorado 5A state triple jump champ as a junior, helping the Patriots to the team title...had a 3.7 cumulative GPA. PERSONAL: Born Jan. 1, 1990, in Miami, Fla...full name is Joseph Alexander Harris...son of David and Renee...distant cousin of James Mungro, who played running back for the Indianapolis Colts from 2002-06...major is Fine Arts.
