2008 (SOPHOMORE): Showed the ability to be a total package at wide receiver, providing great hands, solid speed and clutch play-making ability along with outstanding blocking on the edge...11 games played with 5 starts (did not travel to BYU - coaches' decision)...led the team with 428 yards (38.9/game) on 33 receptions...finished the year strong with 12 grabs for 136 yards (11.3 avg.) in the final 3 games...averaged 13.0 yards/catch...long catch-and-run of 81 yards was the longest by a Lobo since 2002.
`08 HIGHLIGHTS: at Colorado State...Most productive game in 10 weeks with 5 catches for 51 yards...4 grabs for 36 yards in the 4th quarter...at UNLV...3 grabs for 44 yards - all in the 4th quarter...just missed a 15-yard TD when he was unable to get his foot in bounds on a late 4th quarter fade pass...vs. No. 9 Utah...Broke out of a 4-week drought with 4 catches for 41 yards...long grab of 29 came with UNM backed up on its own 2-yard line...at Tulsa...4 grabs for 73 yards, including a long of 39...vs. Arizona...Just 39 yards on 4 catches, but his first 3 receptions went for 1st downs, including a pair of 3rd-and-long plays...excellent job blocking to help spring several long Rodney Ferguson runs...vs. Texas A&M...Career-high 6 receptions for 51 yards - all in the 2nd half...5 grabs for 44 yards in the 4th quarter...excellent job blocking on the perimeter to clear the way for several long Rodney Ferguson runs...vs. TCU...Was a bright spot for the offense with 3 catches for 99 yards in his second career start...opened the second half with an 81-yard catch on an underthrown pass by backup QB Brad Gruner...swam around the Horned Frogs' standout CB Rafael Priest to make the play.
2007 (REDSHIRT FRESHMAN): Appeared in 12 games and made his lone start in week 2 vs. New Mexico State...only receptions came in the season-opener at UTEP, finishing with 2 for 22 yards, including a 19-yard sliding catch on 3rd-and-long for his first career reception...was a physical blocker on the perimeter, clearing the way for a pair of long gains vs. NMSU...did a nice job on special teams as well...finished with 5 tackles in kick coverage and knifed in to deflect a punt at San Diego State.
HIGH SCHOOL: A 2006 graduate of Las Cruces (N.M.) Mayfield High School...first team all-state WR who helped Mayfield to the Class 5A state title in 2005...the Trojans were undefeated, finishing 14-0...Hernandez caught 70 passes for 1,084 yards and 10 TDs for an offense that generated more than 4,700 yards and 30 points a game...played for head coach Jim Bradley...second team all-state at free safety as well...also participated in basketball and track.
