NEW MEXICO: A former walk-on who earned a scholarship just prior to the start of the 2012 season ... has added 15 pound during the 2013 offseason and could secure more playing time with a solid performance during spring practice ... also saw playing time in 2011 ... a decent-sized target with good hands and ability to catch the ball in traffic ... one of the harder-working players on the team ... needs to continue to show improvement and ability to pick up the new offense to get back on the field in 2012.
2012 (SOPHOMORE): Played in 10 games with four starts ... caught three passes for 23 yards and had a 45-yard run against Fresno State on Oct. 27 ... was the first New Mexico Man -- an award that honors a walk-on from New Mexico for his hard work during the week of practice leading up to the upcoming game -- in coach Bob Davie's tenure.
2011 (REDSHIRT FRESHMAN): Rose to the occasion when the team suffered multiple injuries at the wide receiver position...played in six games with two starts ... had one catch for six yards vs. Air Force in week eight.
HIGH SCHOOL: Attended Rio Rancho High School and played for coach David Howes ... had 81 receptions for 1,153 yards and 20 touchdowns his senior year in 2009. Was selected All-Metro his junior and senior seasons and 1st Team All-State his senior season.
PERSONAL: Born April 3, 1992 in Rhinebeck, N.Y. ... Son of Steve and Lisa Magnant ... has two older sisters and a younger brother ... hobbies include playing sports ... favorite food is steak ... favorite athlete is Dwyane Wade ... was a member of Honor Roll throughout high school.
