NEW MEXICO: A fifth-year senior who finished his career tied for the most receptions by a tight end in UNM history with 77 (tying John Duff, 1987-88)... showed his unselfishness in 2012 when he took on more of a blocking role to accommodate the offense's need to run the ball and control the clock in 2012 ... participated in the East-West Shrine Game in January ... added more than 30 pounds to his frame from the end of his junior season to the beginning of his senior year ... one of five players to start every game for New Mexico in 2011 ... an Academic All-Mountain West honoree in the fall of 2011 ... a hamstring injury slowed him during the first part of spring, but began to show the form that earned him a 2010 All-MW honor during the end of spring practice...a preseason candidate for the John Mackey Award (that goes to the nation's best tight end) in 2011...48 career games with 34 starts ... a two-time All-American who was a first-team All-Mountain West Conference season in 2010 ... has shown the ability to be a real receiving weapon and a dangerous red zone-target ... made significant strides in his blocking at the line of scrimmage and created match-up problems for smaller DBs as a downfield receiver ... a late bloomer in high school who was just 6-2 and 185 pounds entering his junior season ... older brother, Brooks, was a three-year starter (2008-10) at defensive end for the University of Arizona and was a second-round pick (42nd overall) of the Houston Texans in the 2011 NFL Draft. 2012 (SENIOR): Played in all 13 games with seven starts. HIGH SCHOOL: A 2008 graduate of Tucson Sabino High School...prep standout who led all Arizona high school tight ends with 41 receptions for 761 yards and seven TDs in 2007...consensus first team all-state pick as a senior...also had 36 tackles and two sacks from his defensive end position...the Sabercats were a perfect 10-0 in the regular season before losing to Prescott 34-28 in the first round of the 4A playoffs...played for head coach Jay Campos...was on the wrestling team in 2006 and '07, and competed in the shot put, discus, long jump and 200 meters for the track team...third in the state discus finals as a senior.
