New Mexico vs. Colorado State

New Mexico hosted Colorado State in the season opener, won by the Rams 14-10.

NEW MEXICO: Offensive guard who found a home as a starter for seven games on the left side in 2011...played in 10 games overall...tweaked his ankle and missed two games late in the season...a massive lineman with great size and leverage, but working on conditioning...McDowney lost 85 pounds between his junior and senior seasons at DeMatha HS...weighed 415 as a junior, but implemented a rigorous daily regimen to lose weight before his senior season: 1 hour on a stationary bike, 30 minutes on a treadmill, 1 hour on an elliptical machine, followed by weightlifting, and a much better diet...actually participated in the school's "Biggest Loser" contest.

2011 (SOPHOMORE): Made his first career start against No. 13 Arkansas in week two and started seven straight games...also served as part of the back-wall protection on the punt team.

2010 (REDSHIRT FRESHMAN): Played in 10 games as a reserve guard and was also used on special teams...appeared in 134 plays.

HIGH SCHOOL: One of two 2009 signees from DeMatha HS in Washington, D.C., along with McPhearson...first team all-metro, first all-Washington Catholic Athletic Conference and second team all-county offensive guard as a senior...played for head coach Bill McGregor...the Stags won WCAC titles in 2006, `07 and `08.
