NEW MEXICO: Returning letterman and one of the fastest wide receivers in the Mountain West Conference who could be ready for a breakthrough 2008 campaign...coaches say he may have had the best spring among the receivers and gained a great deal of confidence...hands and concentration were much improved, and he established himself as a real threat on reverses, screens or getting free downfield...made several tough grabs in traffic as well during scrimmage situations...capped the spring with a 6-catch, 138-yard performance in the Cherry-Silver Game, including a 79-yard TD, along with a 15-yard run...could be in the mix to return kicks as well this fall...had not played or practiced in two years when he arrived at UNM for training camp in 2007...originally signed with the Lobos in the spring of 2006, but missed the season after his best friend was killed while serving in Iraq in July of `06...eventually enrolled at UNM in the summer of `07...spent two seasons (2004-05) at Palomar College in San Marcos, Calif...did not attend college the first year out of high school...North Carolina state champion in the 100 and 200 meters his junior and senior seasons (2002-03) at Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons HS...joined the Lobo track team late in the `08 season and went on to finish fourth in the 100 meters at the MWC Championships with a lifetime best of 10.66. 2007 (JUNIOR): Appeared in 11 games and made one start when UNM opened up in a 4-WR set vs. Sacramento State...8 catches for 44 yards with a long of 13, mostly coming on screen plays...burned his man on what would have been a pair of 50+ yard TDs vs. Air Force and UNLV, but was unable to hold onto the ball...also had a pair of kickoff returns with a long of 23. PALOMAR COLLEGE: Second team All-Mission Conference American Division pick in 2005 when he caught 28 passes for 535 yards and 6 TDs...played for head coach Joe Early. HIGH SCHOOL: A 2003 graduate of Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons...three-year starter at wide receiver and defensive back...all-state in the defensive secondary as a sophomore and all-state receiver as a senior...played for head coach Wayne Stewart...also North Carolina state champion in the 100 and 200 meters his junior and senior seasons (2002-03).
