NEW MEXICO: Two-year letterman who has played both tackle and guard at UNM, but spent all of 2009 on the edge...pushed senior Ivan Hernandez for the starting job at right tackle during training camp and made two spot starts early in the year when Hernandez was injured...has an opportunity to make a big impact in his final season and can establish himself as the early leader for the open right tackle position with a strong spring practice season...enrolled at UNM in the summer of 2008 and has two years of eligibility remaining...signed with Alcorn State out of high school and was a redshirt during the 2006-07 academic year.

2009 (JUNIOR): Played in 6 games, making his first 2 Division I starts in weeks 2 & 3 in place of injured Ivan Hernandez...split time (27 plays) with Hernandez in week 3 vs. Air Force...5 KD blocks in all 57 snaps in week 2 vs. Tulsa.

2008 (SOPHOMORE): Played the fourth quarter vs. San Diego State (week 8) in his lone game appearance...3 knockdowns and missed just 2 assignements in his 22 snaps.

ROCK VALLEY COLLEGE: Spent one year at Rock Valley College in Rockford, Ill., where he was a second team all-conference offensive tackle in 2007... listed as the nation's 8th-best junior college offensive line prospect by Rivals.com...also the Golden Eagles' team MVP...played for head coach Jeremy Warren.

HIGH SCHOOL: A 2006 graduate of Miami (Fla.) Carol City HS...a two-year starter at offensive tackle for head coach Walt Frazier...all-district as a senior...Carol City was 6A state champs Mears' sophomore season...also played basketball two years and was a member of the school's Honor Roll.
