New Mexico hosted Colorado State in the season opener, won by the Rams 14-10.

NEW MEXICO: Fifth-year interior lineman who will compete for a starting job this fall...continues to develop at the guard and center positions, but coaches believe he has a solid future as he continues to master the technique and improves his strength in the weight room...last name is pronounced moon-YEEZ...La Cueva HS teammate Brett Kennedy is a senior defensive tackle for the Lobos.

2010 (JUNIOR): Lettered for the first time as a Lobo, playing in nine games with two starts at offensive guard...first starting assignment of his career came against No. 14 Utah...appeared in 314 plays...also started against Wyoming in the Lobos' lone victory of 2010.

HIGH SCHOOL: A 2007 graduate of Albuquerque La Cueva High School...two-time all-state offensive tackle for the Bears...played for head coach Fred Romero...the Bears produced undefeated state titles in 2003 and `04, going 13-0 each year...Muñiz also started at defensive tackle as a senior...finished second in the state in the shot put his junior season.
