NEW MEXICO:
Former walk-on who found a home at cornerback last year after playing wide receiver on the scout team during the first three years of his career...is an outstanding athlete with good speed and great leaping ability...has quickly developed into a solid back up and will open the preseason behind Jerrell Malone at right CB...placed on scholarship in August of 2004...academic troubles kept him off the field at times in the past, but got himself back on track and has improved tremendously with two years of uninterrupted training under his belt...two-sport athlete who has also been one of the top long and high jumpers for the UNM track team...an all-MWC high jumper as a freshman, clearing 6-10.25 to tie fellow football player Hank Baskett for second place in 2002...career-best long jump mark of 23-11.75...MWC outdoor finalist in both events in 2002 and '04...did not compete in 2005, but has a year of eligibility remaining in `06.
2004 (JUNIOR):
Appeared in 5 games, mostly on special teams...made his collegiate debut at CB in the second quarter at Oregon State (Sept. 18)...was thrown at twice and recorded a PBU in his brief time in coverage
HIGH SCHOOL:
A 2001 graduate of Albuquerque Highland High School...two-year letterman for coach Judge Chavez...teams won district championships his junior and senior years...also lettered in track where he was district triple jump champion in 1998 and 2000...claimed city long jump title in 2000
PERSONAL:
Born June 25, 1983, in Albuquerque, N.M...age is 22...son of Mike and Judy...mom and dad manage Powdrell's barbecue restaurant in Albuquerque...has three siblings, Alisha, Lawrence and Catherine...major is University Studies.
